Why the Galaxy S24 Ultra is Still the Ultimate Samsung Phone (2026)

The Evolution of Samsung's Galaxy Ultra: A Personal Reflection

In the ever-evolving world of smartphones, Samsung's Galaxy Ultra series has been a beacon of innovation and design. However, as we delve into the latest iterations, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This device, in my opinion, represents the pinnacle of Samsung's Ultra vision, a vision that seems to have evolved, or perhaps, strayed, in recent years.

The Signature Look and Feel

The Galaxy S24 Ultra exudes a unique presence. Its sharp, angular design is a bold statement, a departure from the gentle curves that now dominate the market. This phone, with its unmistakable phablet-era DNA, stands out in a crowd. It's a design that people recognize and connect with, a true signature look.

However, as we move forward in the timeline, Samsung's Ultra series seems to have lost some of its edge. The S25 and S26 Ultras, while more comfortable in hand, have sacrificed a bit of their distinctive character. They've become more homogeneous, blending in with the crowd instead of standing out. For me, the Ultra should feel, well, ultra. It should be a statement piece, not just another variation on a theme.

The Evolution (or Devolution?) of the S Pen

One of the most iconic features of the Galaxy Ultra series has been the S Pen. With the S24 Ultra, the S Pen was more than just a stylus; it was a Bluetooth remote, adding a layer of functionality and convenience. I used it to capture the perfect group photo, to adjust camera settings with ease, and even to uncover my hidden artistic talents (or so I thought!).

But with newer models, Samsung has stripped away these extra features. The S Pen is now just a stylus, a very good one, but a step down from what it once was. This change, in my view, diminishes the overall experience. It's like taking away a superpower and expecting me to be content with mere mortal abilities.

Battery Capacity: A Stagnant Story

Another area where the Galaxy S24 Ultra shines is its battery life. With a 5,000mAh battery, it offers impressive endurance. However, this is where Samsung's cautious approach becomes evident. Since the Galaxy S20 Ultra, the battery capacity has remained unchanged. While software optimizations have improved efficiency, the hardware hasn't evolved.

Meanwhile, other brands are pushing the boundaries with silicon-carbon batteries, offering capacities that rival power banks. Samsung, it seems, is playing it safe, likely due to past battery-related incidents. But this cautiousness results in a lack of excitement when it comes to upgrades. Battery life is a critical factor in how we use our phones, and without significant improvements, the sense of upgrade is diminished.

The Price of Progress

With each new generation, smartphone prices seem to creep upwards. As a consumer, I expect these price hikes to be justified by significant improvements. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, with its complete package, hasn't given me a reason to upgrade. Samsung's promise of seven years of software support further solidifies this device's longevity. I'm content, knowing I won't be missing out on anything for the next five years.

So, Samsung, the ball is in your court. You have five years to surprise me, to bring back that sense of wonder and innovation. The Galaxy S24 Ultra has set a high bar, and I'm eager to see if you can surpass it.
